A walk around the app
Everything Subscription Diet can do, in one place — and exactly how it does the maths. Nothing here is a black box.
Add what you pay for
Press Add subscription (the + in the tab bar on phones). Search a catalog of 250+ services — each with its real logo and a typical price in your currency — or type any name to add your own.
- Set the price you actually pay and how often: weekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly.
- Add the next charge date if you know it; it powers the calendar and reminders. “One month from today” fills it in for you.
- On a free trial? Switch it on and set the day it ends — the app treats that day as the first charge.
- The card at the top of the form redraws as you type, so you see it before you save.
Your wallet
Home shows your subscriptions as a stack of cards, the most expensive per year at the front. Each card carries the price, how often it bills, its next charge (“valid thru”) and what it costs a year.
- ←→
- Rotate through the cards, from anywhere on the page
- ↵
- Open the front card (when the deck has focus)
- Drag up or down, or scroll, to rotate. Tap a card behind to bring it forward.
- Hover a card behind (or press and hold on a phone) to lift it out and read it.
- Fling the front card sideways to cut it — with an Undo, in case.
- The stack icon beside the deck folds it into a neat pile, or fans it back out.
The diet scale
Prefer a picture of the weight? Switch the home view to Scale (top right, or in You). Each subscription is a weight on the pan, sized by what it costs a year; the dial reads your monthly total. Drag a weight off the pan to cut it and watch the needle swing back. How the sizes and the dial are worked out is in How the numbers work.
Keep, maybe or cut
Tap any card to open it. You'll see its card, three numbers and when it next charges:
- Keep — worth it, kept on purpose. Maybe — revisit before it renews. Cut — out of the jar; its yearly cost moves to your savings.
- Cutting here doesn't cancel anything with the provider. Where we know it, there's a link to the service's own account page so you can cancel there.
- Changed your mind? Open a cut card and choose “Put it back in the jar”.
- Edit details to fix the price, cycle, dates or shelf; Remove deletes it for good.
Upcoming
The Upcoming screen shows the next charge as a card with a countdown, a four-week calendar with each charge on its day, and every subscription in date order: this week, later, and those with no date yet. A charge ringed in red is a free trial turning paid.
Calendar reminders
In You → Reminders, “Add reminders to my calendar” downloads a calendar file your own calendar app imports. Nothing is sent anywhere; the events live in your calendar, and each one links straight back to that subscription.
- Renewals: two days before, repeating every billing cycle.
- Yearly plans: also seven days before — big charges deserve more notice.
- Free trials: the day before the trial turns paid.
- Optional monthly Weigh-In: one day a month (1st–28th) to review everything.
- Cut subscriptions get no reminders. Re-download after big changes to refresh them.
Savings and sharing
Savings totals what your cuts free up in a year, a month and a day, shows the before-and-after, and lists every card you've cut. Share your diet makes an image of your cut cards. By default it shares proportions only (“My jar is 40% lighter”) — the amount appears only if you switch it on.
Search and shortcuts
The command palette searches screens, actions and every subscription. Type any words in any order — “net oct” finds Netflix renewing in October.
- ⌘K
- Open search (Ctrl K on Windows and Linux)
- /
- Open search when you're not typing
- ↑↓
- Move through results
- ↵
- Open the highlighted result
- esc
- Close
- ←→
- Rotate the wallet
Your data
Everything lives in this browser, on this device: no account, no server copy, no bank login, no trackers. That also means clearing your browser data clears your jar — so back it up.
- You → Your data: Back up saves a file you keep; Restore loads it on any device or browser.
- Installing the app to your home screen gives it sturdier storage (Safari can clear website data for sites you haven't used in a week).
- Currency only changes the label on amounts; it never converts them.
How the numbers work
Nothing is a black box. Here is every rule the app uses, drawn out with an example.
Every subscription is turned into what it costs you in a year.
A yearly plan, spread evenly across twelve months.
₹7,788 ÷ ₹38,279 = 20% — one subscription's slice of everything you still pay for, rounded to a whole percent.
Everything you cut, at its yearly cost. ₹15,000 ÷ ₹50,000 = 30% lighter.
Your renewal date hops forward a whole cycle at a time until it lands on today or later. A free trial's end date is its next charge.
Every charge from today through day 28, added up. A weekly plan lands four times.
Added to your own calendar; each one links back to that subscription. Cut ones get none.
Cards are stacked by yearly cost — the heaviest is always in front.
A weight's side grows with the square root of its yearly cost, so its area — what your eye compares — tracks the cost. Sizes stay between 46 and 112px.
The dial's top is a round number (1, 2, 2.5 or 5 × 10ⁿ) with 15% headroom over everything you've ever added — so cutting visibly drops the needle instead of rescaling.
Amounts are stored as whole paise or cents, so adding them up never drifts. Currency only changes the label — it never converts.
Prices in the catalog are typical starting points. Always change them to match your bill.
